I feel discouraged
This morning I woke up feeling really discouraged. Nothing had gone terribly wrong. There wasn't any major crisis. Yet I felt overwhelmed and weighed down in my spirit. As I was praying and spending time with the Lord, I found myself asking, "God, why am I feeling so discouraged?" I was reminded of David in 1 Samuel 30. David and his men had returned from battle only to discover that their camp had been destroyed and their families taken captive. The people around him were distressed, angry, and ready to turn against him. Yet the Bible says something remarkable: "But David encouraged himself in the Lord his God." David did not deny the reality of what he was facing. He simply chose to look beyond his circumstances and remember who God was. As I reflected on that passage this morning, I realised that sometimes discouragement comes when we are facing something that feels bigger than us. Something that, in the natural, seems impossible. Perhaps that's exactly where I find myself right now. But then I was reminded of another Scripture: "I lift up my eyes to the mountains. Where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip. He who watches over you will not slumber. Indeed, He who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord watches over you. The Lord is your shade at your right hand. The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all harm. He will watch over your life. The Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore." Psalm 121:1-8 Today, if you're feeling discouraged, remember where your help comes from. Our help does not come from our strength, our wisdom, our bank account, our circumstances, or our ability to figure everything out. Our help comes from the Lord. The God who created heaven and earth is watching over you. He has not forgotten you. He has not abandoned you. And He is more than able to do what seems impossible.
